This link provided several ideas for me to use in my virtual classroom. I have not taught a virtual class before so I do not have any examples to show like the other participants in the TOOL course.
ABC Mineral PowerPoint
Based on the ABC book suggested at the link listed above but instead of a book I decided to transform it into a PowerPoint. On the each slide the students will have the following:
Baking Cookies Video
The students will be assigned to bake chocolate chip cookies and record a video of the process.
Create a recipe based on nutritional needs
Students will create a recipe for an athlete, a pregnant woman, and a diabetic person. The student will explain the difference between the three recipes based on the individual's nutritional needs.
ABC Mineral PowerPoint
Based on the ABC book suggested at the link listed above but instead of a book I decided to transform it into a PowerPoint. On the each slide the students will have the following:
- Name of mineral (ie. Potassium)
- Why the body needs the mineral to function
- Daily recommended value of mineral
- 5 food sources of mineral
- 1 recipe with a food source of the mineral
Baking Cookies Video
The students will be assigned to bake chocolate chip cookies and record a video of the process.
- Last names A-F will bake the cookies using butter and sugar.
- Last names G-O will bake the cookies using butter and artificial sweetener like Splenda.
- Last names P-Z will bake the cookies using apple sauce and sugar.
- At the beginning of the video the student will predict the look and taste of the cookie based on the ingredients used.
- At the end of the video the student will evaluate the appearance (color, texture) of the cookie. The student will sample the cookie and summarize the flavor of the cookie.
